About Our School
Scott Altman Primary School was originally named Sunset Hills Elementary School and was established in the neighborhood of Sunset Hills in 1962. It was renamed Scott Altman Primary School on September 11th, 2010 after the famous Pekin native, Scott D. Altman. Scott Altman, a former student of Pekin Public School District 108, was a United States Navy Fighter Officer who has received countless awards for his service to his country. In further service to his country and the advancement of all mankind, Scott Altman was selected to NASA Astronaut program, where he subsequently piloted two space shuttle missions, and commanded two additional missions, logging a total of over 51 days in space.
Scott Altman Primary School services students in grades K-3 with an enrollment of approximately 200 students. We currently have two sections of Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade. For many years, Scott Altman Primary School has been recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education with the Academic Excellence Award. In 2015, Scott Altman Primary School was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award for Academic Excellence. Our school is family-oriented and our goal is to provide all our students with the best education by differentiating instruction to meet individual needs. Finally, we not only have a strong instructional curriculum that supports a workshop approach to instruction but also have a strong social-emotional curriculum that helps our students grow into well rounded citizens.
