Welcome to the Willow School’s website! Our school was built in 1962 and has had two additions; in 2012, we celebrated school’s 50th Birthday!  Today Willow is home to about 320 students in kindergarten through third grade. Our students are CAN DO Kids. We have three sections of kindergarten, first, second, & third grades and three instructional special education classes. Our special programs include special education, speech therapy, Reading Recovery and Title I support. Technology is integrated across the curriculum at Willow School. We have computer labs and Smart Boards in each classroom and in our Learning Center. We are also integrating iPads into our curriculum.  Willow School has an active PTA and a strong volunteer program. Our staff and students are proud of our school and invite you to browse our webpages and learn more about us.

Willow Primary School has had a rich history of academic awards.  In 2005, Willow School was honored by the United States Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School.  The Illinois State Board of Education has recognized Willow School with the School Spotlight Award for the past seven years.  This year, Willow was one of 167 schools in the state to receive this. The determining criterion requires that at least half of our students are classified as low-income, and our school had to make Adequate Yearly Progress for 2010 & 2011 from No Child Left Behind. 60% had to meet or exceed in both reading and math in 2011; 50% had to do the same in 2010 and 2009, too.

In 2008 and 2004, Willow also received the Academic Improvement Award for Exemplary Gains in Performance on the Illinois Learning Standards for substantial gains in performance over the last several years.

In 2010 and again in 2011, Willow School also received the Academic Excellence Award from the Illinois State Board of Education! To receive this honor, 90% of students must meet or exceed state standards in both reading and math for the three most recent years; our school must have made Adequate Yearly Progress in 2010 and 2011 required from No Child Left Behind. Willow was one of 438 schools in the state to receive this honor.

Receiving these two awards show that, in spite of our 64% low-income status, Willow students again beat the odds and excelled on Illinois Standards Achievement Test! Only 10 schools in the entire state of Illinois received two out of three ISBE Honor Roll Awards, and Willow Primary School is one of those 10 schools!

We hope you find our website to be informative and our school inviting and friendly.
