Do you want to get a jump-start on your New Year’s resolution? Did you ever want to attempt to complete a 5K race? How about trying a 10K or more? Do you want to train with like-minded individuals that will support you in your running goals? Then this may be the program for you. The D108 Wellness Committee is sponsoring the Pekin 108 5K+. This program begins on November 30, 2013 and ‘”runs” until October 31, 2014.
Here is how the Pekin 108 5K+ program works. D108 employees and spouses that join the program are encouraged to set a goal. For some, the goal might be to complete a 5K for the first time. Some may want to complete a half or full marathon. Others individuals may want to complete several 5K races or a combination of different races. The goal is entirely up to each and every participant. The goal is based on the number of races the participant wants to complete NOT the number of miles. Each person’s goal will be added with other members of the program to create a district-wide goal.
Program members pick and choose the types of races they want to participate in between November 30, 2013 to October 31, 2014 (Attached to this email is sample of the different races that can be selected-please note, this is not an all-inclusive list). The minimum race distance for the Pekin 108 5K+ program is, of course, a 5K. All participants are responsible for registration and fees for the races they are participating in. A participant will earn a point for completing a race of 5K or more by walking, running or walking/running the race. Participants will be recognized as stated below:
…a 5K+ for the “First Time”
…3 5K+ races equal Bronze Level
…6 5K+ races equal Silver Level
…9 5K+ races equal Gold Level
…12 5K+ races equal Platinum Level
Each recognition level earns a special incentive. The Wellness Committee will keep track of each participant’s progress towards his or her goal on the District website. Also, the Wellness Committee will post upcoming races, training tips and other opportunities. The Wellness Committee will be creating a “Runners” List Serv. The list serv will allow the Wellness Committee to share race registration information and allow participants to share and support each other during the program.
D108 employees and spouses can sign up by completing the attached registration form and returning it to Central Office with the program fee. The program fee pays for the Dry-Fit Pekin 108 running shirt and incentives. The inaugural race is Festival of Lights’ Folepi River Trail Classic on November 30 in East Peoria. If you are interesting in running this first race and would like your Pekin 108 dry shirt by race day then please send the registration form with the program fee to Len Ealey at Central Office by November 8. Registrations will be taken after November 8 but shirts will arrive after November 30. Please contact Kevin Burks, Jake Norman or Len Ealey if you have any questions.
